Dearest Flist -

I need some ideas on what to do with a fanzine that is falling apart. It is bound with spiral wire and the plastic cover protector and  front and back covers are torn completely off due to many readings.   The actual pages will be at risk next!

There is enough margin room to cut off the little nibs and still have a place to 3-hole punch or something.  However, 3-hole punched paper are also prone to pulling out of the binder, so I'm not sure that will be a good plan.

Anyone of you lovelies fixed a fanzine so that it stayed fixed?  I'd really appreciate any ideas full of success!

Pam, you know Janet (quilt Janet), she owns a binding machine. I am sure she could rebind it for you if it wouldn't be cost-prohibitive to ship it to England and back.

Thanks for the idea - I'm going to check with my local library (part of the City of Los Angeles library system) for their ideas. They must know something about rehab of books.

If that doesn't work, I should personally make a visit to Janet and hang out in the UK for many weeks. Oh dang, first I have to do the lotto thing :)

Side note: When I graduated from college, many centuries ago, I studied "library science" and they were just starting to have computerized book indexes for the big libraries. Today, I can get online and request a book from any of the dozens of branches and in a few days pick it up at the branch 2 blocks from my house. I love it and feel lucky every time!
